Vanessa Goertzman
Moda Fabric Designer
Before Vanessa was even born, she was going to quilt shops with her mother. As a child, she and her brothers were surrounded by shelves full of quilting fabric, the constant whir of her mother’s Bernina, and piles of patterns ready for mailing. Is it any wonder that she made her first quilt as a teenager? Vanessa never made any plans to follow in her mother’s footsteps, but somehow the fates decided differently. When Vanessa was expecting her first child, she started quilting again. She found that creating her baby girl’s first quilt was an intoxicating experience–and she couldn’t stop! Vanessa started a pattern company in 2010 called Lella Boutique and has published dozens of patterns to date. Vanessa has always been drawn to the beautiful fabrics of Moda, and began the joyful experience of designing fabric for them in 2013 with her debut group Into the Woods. In addition to her design work, Vanessa has two active children, Olive and Lorenzo, who also like making things and keep life interesting down in southern Utah.
